1.00Is it safe to walk on a metal roof of a metal building?
Q.I'm looking to buy a metal warehouse building. The walls and roof are dirty and need cleaning. While the structure is plenty sound, I'm wondering how safe it is to walk on the roof. I was wondering if all metal roofs are built strong enough to support a person walking on it.
For other types of roofs in colder climates, building codes specify a load capacity to hold up under snow. Here in Houston, such support does not apply. As the roof itself is very light, it doesn't need to be very strong to shed off rain.
A.I've done a lot of work on metal roofs, and i have only came across 1 that was too thin to walk on. it wasn't that it wouldn't support me either, (230lbs) it just bent, and dented when i walked on it. this just simply made it look ugly... feel a corner or edge if you can find one. if you can bend it easily with your fingers, it's too thin, but if it's quite rigid, and you can't bend it without plyers, it should hold up to your boots!
not sure where you are, but where i am, we are starting to get frost. take EXTRA care on those metal roofs during this coming winter season!
1.00My home could use a new roof. I am very interested in a metal roof. Any suggestions, comments, good roofer?
Q.I live in southeastern MA and don't know any roofers that do metal roofs. I personally think it is a better roof than asphalt shingles. The current roof is 24 years old, the age of the home. Any suggestions would be helpful - Thanks!
A.Metal is the way to go. I put white metal on my roof and I love it. The attic is at least 30 degrees cooler in the summer time and it should last a very long time.

1.00Does anyone have a basic idea of the cost to replace a roof nowadays on a 1600sq ft home in Southwest Florida?
Q.We're thinking of replacing our shingle roof with a metal one.
Where is the best place to search for a reliable roofing contractor?
Thanks for your help!
A.$300+ per square [100 square feet] for asphalt shingles. Metal roofs have a much broader price range depending on quality and style.
Contact your local Roofing union or builders association, and make sure they are both licensed and insured. Ask for a copy of their current coverage, and refuse work to them until it is provided.

Metal roofs are notoriously tough, and they can often last for the entire lifetime of a house. Metal roofs can withstand the consistent abuse from bad weather and still come out looking great. Metal roofs are also extremely lightweight, which makes them easier, and cheaper to install. Metals roofs can actually be laid over preexisting roofing material, which eliminates the need to tear out the old roofing before installation, which also saves money. Metal roofs are also resistant to bugs, and if properly galvanized, metal roofs are also resistant to rust. Metal roofs are also non combustible, and contrary to popular belief, are not more susceptible to lightning strikes as other roofs. If this does not make you feel safer, you could always use a lightning rod to lightning proof your home. Because they have smooth surfaces, water easily runs off metal roofing, so you do not have to worry about water damage. Additionally, metal roofs do not require much maintenance. Metal roofs can be a little on the expensive side, but the advantages that metal roofing provides more than makes up for the extra expense. Some people complain about the noise when it rains, so remember to ask your Boston roofing contractors about sound insulation or sheathing to minimize the noise levels.
Installing metal roofing can give your home some extra style. It will also help save you money on repairs and energy bills in the long term. On the other hand, metal roofing materials are not as common as other roofing materials, so their installation should only be trusted to a Boston area professional metal roofing contractor with experience working with metal roofing materials. I have a 30 x 50 building with a 6/12 pitch want a price for a green metal roof.

Shingles are comming off the main section of the roof. Seems nails are not holding the shingles down. I believe the roof should be re-shingled with a second layer. Remaining roof over the garage should be checked for loose shingles.
